Silvia Vasquez Aug 17,2016 Job Shadow My Visit at Vida Sana with Dr. Celaya
The day finally came, August 17, 2016, where I got the chance to meet with Dr. Ana Rosa Celaya or best known as Dr. Ana. She is a doctor in medical at Vida Sana in Lindsay. I decided to job shadow Dr. Ana because she is actually my doctor and she always creates me with lots of care and love. Plus she is Mexican just like my family and I. I want to study medicine and become a doctor just like Ana who is so knowledgeable and wise. Lindsay say is a very small town so, once I got there, I already recognize many of the patients waiting to be attended. I felt welcome. At first I was nervous because I haven’t seen her for a while but once I greeted her, I felt like she was my friend. She was very nice and polit. She was very busy so right after our greeting, she said to follow her. So I did. She went from room to room without resting for about an hour or two. While she attended her patients, I watched as she looked in their ears and mouths. The most interesting part of attending the patient was how Dr. Ana would start a conversation with them about almost anything. She would talk to them about the farm work since she had to pick fruit as well. It was interesting seeing her get along with them so well. The paper work she had to do was in no way difficult but I notice how she can tell the difference between any sicknesses from the patients. I asked her, “How do you know what they have?” she said, “That’s what school was for. I had to read books over and over.” I was pretty amazed but scared because if I study medicine, I have to remember the sickness as well. There was a baby boy who apparently had a fever. In order for the doctor to check him, his mother and I had to grave his arms and legs for the checkup. I felt like I was hurting him but Dr. Ana said, “It doesn’t hurt him. He is just crying because he is afraid we are going to hurt him.” I was relieved and glad that boy got his checkup and medicine to feel better. I learn it takes a lot of responsibility because as a doctor, you need to know how to help the person, what’s wrong with them, and give them the treatment or medicine they need. As a doctor you need to be careful and caring because you are responsible to make them feel better. I liked how small a clinic can be because in that way, any doctor can get more time with the patient and actually get to understand their concerns and answer their questions. It was a great experience. I loved how nice and peaceful the clinic was. The doctor was so kind and introduced me to everyone she walked by. Her career was long but according to her, it was so worth it. Before deciding where to do my job shadow, I didn’t even know what I wanted to do but now that I’ve experienced this, I still don’t think medical school is for me. I loved the experience; I just don’t like to be in doors. I thought I would be more interested but I was wrong. Now that I’ve looked at different majors, I’ve dedicated to study Marine Biology. I wish to become a Marine Biologist. I love the ocean. It’s out in the fresh and not indoor. I can do whatever research I want on my own time without anyone relying on me. I’m excited to start studying. I wish to attend UC Santa Barbara or UC Santa Cruz. I’m still very glad I job shadow Ana because I can always change my major and I already know what to expect.
