I was afraid of failing. My Spanish was not very fluent. In fact, I was horrible. It got to the point I was not able to speck properly towards my parents. This is the biggest reason why I decided to join Spanish classes. My teacher, Mrs. Zavala, was outstanding! She spoke about her adventures in Spain and other paces I did not recognize. She was a very happy woman who helped us learn the very basic in specking fluently. At the beginning, I struggled a lot. I did not understand the assessments because I was not able to read the text. I always counted on my friends who were actually able to read it to me. However, I knew I was not going to be able to count on them forever so, I decided to take the time and read those simple sentences to at least begin reading.
Spanish Speakers Two
Realizing Mrs. Zavala has left the school campus to purse her adventures, I was now introduced to a teacher from Spain; Mr. Araque. At the beginning, it was hard to understand him since he spoke some of his words differently than us in U.S. He came all the way from Spain to teach at our small but amazing little school. He was, indeed, a very intelligent professor. I learn a lot with him. I learned how to separate the words to make it easier to understand and read. Here is where I began to understand more words and became a little more fluent in my reading.
AP Spanish Language
I never thought I was capably of achieving my goal of joining this class. I still remember my freshmen year were I struggled with simply reading a sentence. Now, I have fulfilled the requirements and learned enough to take the AP Spanish Language Test on May. This was Mr. Araques last year teaching in Lindsay High School. He was probably the smartest teacher from the entire D wall. He’s knowledge lead his students to passing with level 4’s. He prepared my class extremely well for the AP test because, from my understanding, all his students passed the test. I thank him for his support and encouragement for our success.
Future Plans
Although I enjoyed learning and understanding Spanish, I did not feel it was something I wanted to continue at college. I learned many new words and even if I still continue to make errors, I can easily catch my mistake. For my job shadow, I interviewed my doctor, Ana Rosa Celaya. I wanted to experience what a doctor does in order to have a small understanding on what I might decide to major into. At the beginning, I was not sure of what I wanted to do. I either wanted to become a teacher or major in sport medicine but I wanted something more challenging. Therefore, I choose to job shadow my doctor. It was a great experience. I learned the process of attending each patients but I mostly realized how much work and dedication it take to be successful. This was a huge challenge, however, I know I am capable to accomplish it but after the experience, I came to the conclusion becoming a doctor was not for me. I am not an indoor person. Doctors are great and help saves lives but I have found Marine Biology extremely interesting. I will graduate with honors and hope to get accepted to UC Santa Barbara, my number one choice, to earn my BS degree in Ecology. I plan to complete this in four years and continue to study in order to become a Marine Biologist. I also wish to study abroad in Spain where I can research the oceanic environment and compare it to the U.S. a coast and bay environment. After those studies, I will continue school and major into a similar major as ecology until I become a Marine Biologist.
